Christina Perri - New Research

Draft of my magazine ad

This is the draft to my magazine ad, it looks awful! But you get a vague idea of what i am trying to do. The lines at the top are where my Masthead and song name are going to be be. My model is going to be facing away from the camera. The shot is going to be a mid-shot, so we don't see her whole body, however we see the setting with the forestry. My model is of the same stature, and is going to be wearing a white dress, with her hair curled. I have looked at outfit choices, and picked out the most suitable one to my idea.
The picture is expected to be portrait, as Magazine ads are not landscape, i had to keep this in mind for when i was taking pictures. The colours are quite bright, and look as if its in an enchanted garden of some sort.

Production Log

Today I have looked at magazine advert layouts and tried to come up with a plan for mine, i have taken some inspiration from different pop magazines. So I now know how to layout the reviews, the image and masthead.

Draft of my DigiPak

I have done my draft of my DigiPak and decided to go with the forestry-enchanted feel. As Pop is predominantly a female based genre. My main colour theme is Pink. I decided to do this as I know that the fanbase is predominantly Female. I decided to make the model face the other way, as it gives the picture an element of mystery and ambiguity.
The white dress connotes purity, this is an important factor as my target demographic are from ages 11-25. So the younger audience will see my model as an aspirational figure, and someone to look up to. The dress also resembles a wedding dress, which ties in with the theme of Love in the song "A Thousand Years". I put a blank box, to navigate where my album is going to be, I need to take more shots in order to get my album picture. The stars are conventional for an album, however i might make it smaller as it is taking up more space than i expected. I used Photoshop CS6, as the software, I used two different fonts. One for the Name "ELLE" and "NEW" whilst the rest was another one. I put a border on the bottom of the picture, I made it translucent, and not as opaque. I also put the release date, so the fans are aware of when the album is out. I think for improvements I plan to change the colour of the release date and "New", as it is not very visible.

Independent Research

No such thing as bad press! Miley Cyrus twerks her way to top of BOTH UK singles and albums charts!
She has hit the headlines almost every day since her raunchy performance at the MTV Video Music Awards back in August.
And it seems there is no such thing as bad press for Miley Cyrus as the controversial pop star has gone straight in at number one on both the singles and album charts in the UK.
The 20-year-old is the first artist this year to do the Official Charts number one double - topping the singles chart with Wrecking Ball, and the albums chart with her new album Bangerz.

It comes not long after twerking - the dance move she showed off with the help of singer Robin Thicke during their much-talked-about act - was among a slew of new terms included in an update of the Oxford dictionary.
Reacting to the news of her doubly-whammy, Cyrus told OfficialCharts.com that she 'can't wait' to be back in the UK next month.
She added: ‘I truly appreciate the love I'm getting from the UK.’
The former Hannah Montana star only scored her first ever UK number one single little over two months ago with We Can't Stop.
Her previous highest charting album was 2010's Can't Be Tamed, which peaked at number eight.
Miley’s chart topping coincides with her hitting the headlines once again on Sunday after her partner in crime at the VMAs – Robin Thicke – laid all the blame on her.
In a clip from an upcoming episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter, the 36-year-old singer said he wasn’t aware of Miley’s raunchy antics.
He said: ‘Well, I was on stage, I didn’t see it, you know. So to me, I’m walking out towards Miley, I’m not thinking "sex," I’m thinking "fun”’.
Meanwhile, Eminem claimed this week's second highest new entry - and his 20th top 10 single as a lead artist - with Berzerk.
Conor Maynard debuted at number four with R U Crazy, and The Saturdays are new in at number five with Disco Love.
OneRepublic dropped from number one to three with Counting Stars.
Saul Milton and Will Kennard, aka Chase & Status, went in at number two in the albums chart with their third studio album, Brand New Machine.
Former X Factor star Lucy Spraggan is new in at number seven today with her major label debut Join The Club.
The singer's self-released album, Top Room At the Zoo, peaked at number 22 on the Official Albums Chart last September before she was asked to take it off sale by the show's producers.
Haim's album Days Are Gone has dropped from number one to number five on the chart, while the Arctic Monkeys are at three with AM and Kings of Leon's Mechanical Bull is at number four.

How i want my video to look like?

Thursday 10 October 2013

Producution log

Today I surfed the net for previous A2 work and tried looking at things I could use for my video and things I should steer away from. I realised that most of the ones that I had looked at weren't very clear with the narrative, or they didn't portray the message through well. For example I looked at ones that were above my predicted grade and below, to see what is expected of me.

Prodction log (Voki)

Hi my name is Emily, I am 17 years old. I study at St. Dominic’s College, singing and dancing is a hobby of mine. So I found the acting part fairly okay however it was a challenge but it was fun.” –Transcript.

I decided to make a voki and give a more personal side to my model. I want to have a variety of softwares, so my blog has that extra edge.

It was pretty fun making it, i plan on using more softwares which are more visually pleasing like this one, it's better having something to look at too because you won't get bored too easily.

I tried downloading Adobe premiere, however it did not download as i had some problem regarding storage (Technical difficulties). So i decided to borrow my sisters laptop to download it in the end. I need to look at Youtube tutorials and learn the do's and don'ts. It's going to be quite hard as i am more used to working on photo editing softwares.

Production Log

Today I decided  that I should finally have a trial shoot of my music video, so when I eventually film for real I actually have a faint idea of what I am actually doing, I rang up my model and also had a dress rehearsal kinda thing, so we choose the final outfits, and played around with make-up and hair. There's a picture below showing her getting ready. It was a long, tiring, tough and amusing day but after looking at my videos and clips I took I actually have a small idea of what I'm doing and where I'm going wrong.

I realised that it's really hard to direct and give instructions to the model because I've got an image and certain vision in my head on how i want the video to look like, it's hard putting the message across to the model. on how she should act and do certain things, so that was one of the hard parts. The fact that it was a trial shoot eased the pressure a whole lot!

Progress report

Over the summer holidays, I have gone through the part of researching and planning for my blog. I started my blog and tried to be a lot more active on my blog as i was a lot more neglectant the year before, I think i was a lot more lazy and i've learnt that planning is Essential.
The first thing i did was, i thought about my chosen genre, and finally decided on Pop.The reason i chose pop was merely because i happen to enjoy the genre very much, so i am quite an expert on it, as i watch a lot of pop videos it helps me know the codes and conventions.  I researched the history of pop and made mood boards for inspiration and began to think of a song.
I knew that I wanted to choose a song that i liked, so i thought of Taylor Swift and started observing her videos more and noting down shots and ideas that i would use in mine.
My chosen song i have decided is Christina Perri - A thousand years.

Background of my song

Christina Perri Explains How She Wrote "A Thousand Years" for 'The Twilight Saga'

The five Twilight films have featured songs by Bon Iver, Anya Marina, and Lupe Fiasco, but there's only one tune that's become the anthem for the franchise. Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years," a romantic song about the fear of falling in love, is a sleeper hit. It played during the credits of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 1, but after fans heard it on the movie's soundtrack, they adopted it as the song to stand for Bella and Edward's romance. Christina was asked to record a new version of the tune for Breaking Dawn—Part 2, and this rendition is an acoustic duet featuring Tony Award-winner Steve Kazee from the Broadway show Once. We spoke to Christina about what first inspired the song and the new music she's recording.

How'd it feel to hear that your song would be featured a second time?
"It was such an incredible day. I received a phone call that during a screening for Breaking Dawn – Part 2, they put in 'A Thousand Years' as a temp, and they had planned to use a new song. But when they watched it together, they said, 'this is it.' I was asked if I minded recording it again, and I said, 'no!' I got to re-do it with a full orchestra, and I made it a duet and added a verse. I'm super honored. I'm literally sporting my Breaking Dawn t-shirt right now."

What first inspired you to write it?
"The producers came to me in 2011 and said, 'can you write a song for Breaking Dawn – Part 1?' So I went and saw the film six months before it came out, and wrote 'A Thousand Years' for Edward and Bella. I'm not a vampire, even though I wish I was, but I tried to step into their love story."

During which moments does your song play?
"In Breaking Dawn – Part 1, the song was in the credits. And it was the second credit song, so most of the people had pretty much left the theatre, but it connected with all of the fans more than the singles from the soundtrack and the bigger scenes. So that's what makes it really special that they asked me if it could be in the most epic six minutes of the final film. It plays during the last moments that we see Edward and Bella, and then a curtain call of the whole cast, so it's pretty epic. Now the song is not just for Edward and Bella; it's for the whole franchise. It's crazy for my little Twihard heart."

You also just released a holiday album.
"I'm such a Christmas fanatic—beyond my family and the holiday, musically, Christmas carols are the first songs I ever performed. So doing a Christmas EP was inevitable for me; I've always wanted to record one. I did seven songs."

Are you working on new music now?
"I'm smack in the middle of making album two. I was on tour for 27 months, but then I jumped right into it. Fortunately or unfortunately, I keep falling in and out of love, so I've got tons of material! I'll start recording at the beginning of next year, and it'll come out in 2013."

What other movies would you like to write songs for?
"I love The Hunger Games. I'm such a book nerd! We'll see."

Production log

I have decided on my first location, i have took various pictures, and a video to show where i am shooting. One of the scenes is taking place in my friends garden as she has a beautifully well kept garden with an arc. I needed a garden kind of place because in parks there is no way in which i can get a power source for my fairy lights and i cannot light open flames (My candles) in a park as it is illegal.

Research on a potential artist

File:Ellie Goulding at Manchester Academy 2012 - Portrait.jpgElena Jane "Ellie" Goulding (born 30 December 1986)
is an English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. In 2010, she became the second artist to both top the BBC's annual Sound of... poll and win the Critics' Choice Award at the Brit Awards in the same year, following Adele's win of both in 2008. After signing to Polydor Records in 2009, she released her first EP in 2009, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding.
Goulding released her debut studio album, Lights, in 2010. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and has sold over 850,000 copies in the UK. Her cover of Elton John's "Your Song" reached number two in the UK in December 2010, and on 29 April 2011, however charted at number one on iTunes for three weeks. Costume - Taylor Swift

TRANSCRIPT - "I really like Taylor swifts look here in the
Video 22, her look is very vintage yet
Trendy at the same time.
She’s bringing back the whole
1950’s housewife look with
The floral print, however
She has added her modern edge to it
With the rep lipstick and dark sun
Glasses. She’s made the costume
Her own.
The colours are all summery, with
Lots of blues, yellows and reds.
This ties in with the concept of her video,
As 22 is based on having fun in the summer
Heat with friends."

I analysed a video, Eenie Meenie by Justin Bieber ft Sean Kingston, I talked about the camera shots, Angles, lighting, editing, costume etc...
I realised that a lot of the conventions are very stereotypical of Pop, and conforms to the ideoology of how pop is.
